The goal of building a new manufacturing plant and hiring a 50-person workforce by the end of 2009 brought the Hayward-based Nemat Management Group to break ground for a new manufacturing plant at 19343 Road 24 in Madera.

Owner Mike Nemat and his wife Leila Shahnavaz welcomed dignitaries and civic leaders to the event, which featured gold-headed shovels to turn over the ceremonial dirt.

The plant will provide high-precision production machining services through Computer Numeric Control devices with precision dimensions measured to the specifications of its customers. He said the workforce he intends to hire will be trained for machining, welding and assembly at their Hayward plant or in Detroit.

Nemat looked at several other sites when deciding where to build his manufacturing plant.

"For awhile it felt like the EDC was becoming a satellite office," Nemat said.

He complimented Madera and Bobby Kahn, executive director of the Madera County Economic Development Commission, saying that after meeting with a representative of the Fresno EDC office, he canceled all his other Fresno meetings because he knew he wanted to build in Madera.
